Nannini Panforte Siena, Panforte Margherita bianco
450g delicious Italian fruit cake from Siena with orange, lemon, almonds, honey and spices.
A specialty of the Tuscan city of Siena and its surroundings. In Siena people like to enjoy a piece of Panforte at any time of the day or year with a cup of espresso. But it also tastes fantastic in the evening as a dessert, for example together with Vin Santo or Moscato.
Unlike torrone, which is more common in northern Italy, panforte is quite soft; it differs from gingerbread in that the ingredients are only coarsely chopped and baked without leavening agents. Pasticcerie Nannini from Siena has been lovingly baking these Tuscan specialties by hand with the best ingredients for generations. And you can taste it!
The Panforte is related to medieval recipes such as gingerbread and gingerbread. Even the Romans knew a simple honey cake, which they called panus mellitus. Later, the recipe was refined in the monasteries with exotic spices that came to Italy from the Orient after the time of the Crusades, Siena being an important trading center for spices.
